Whitcraft, Pence Ranch Clone 115 Pinot Noir, California, USA, 2020

Self proclaimed 'wine shepherd' Drake Whitcraft is making beautifully balanced, site specific wines in a hands on, low intervention manner. This is Pinot Noir from a block of the Pence Ranch Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills. The grapes are handpicked and sorted before being lightly trodden by foot. Manual punchdowns, no pumpovers, 11 months in barrels, unfined and just a smidge of SO2 added. The result is earthy and herbaceous with notes of mulberry and rounded red fruits.
