Anna Martens and Eric Narioo have been making wines on the side of Mt Etna since 2008, their wines reflect the individual terroir and is completely biodynamic. Anna and Eric also help protect and farm the rare Sicilian black bee. The vineyards are located on different Contrada (historic lava flows) and all grapes are tended to by hand with minimum intervention. A truly natural wine making approach creating super, natural wines
This is an exciting new cuvee from Anna and Eric - read below for their own take on the Sfuso!
'Born from the idea that locally on Etna, wine has historically been sold and drunk as “sfuso” - bulk wine, we have decided to encapsulate this concept, with this latest project.
Whilst we wait for key kegs to be delivered and market research the merits of different size bag-in-box, we have decided to put the first tank to bottle, as it is just too delicious to wait any longer…
Made from organically grown estate fruit, this wine is 85% old bush vine Nerello Mascalese, and the usual blend of Nerello Cappuccio, Grenache and indigenous whites. Fermented in our old Palmento building and Qvevri, then aged in large chestnut and oak casks. Bottled wtb minimal SO2 additions, no fining or filtering.
Cherries, plums, spice; a juicy, flavoursome palate with fine, savoury tannins and Etna’s distinct mineral undertones. Released onto the market ready to be drunk. With this wine we aim to challenge both the notion that “bulk” wine is usually of poor quality and that one can not buy a good quality, organic red wine from Etna, at a competitive price. Salute!'
