White Wine

Vignerons de Florensac, Pique & Mixe, Cotes de Thau, Languedoc-Roussillon, France

Who - Vignerons de Florensac
Where - Côtes de Thau, Languedoc, France
What - White Wine - Piquepoul, Terret
When - 2024
How - HVE3 Sustainable, destemmed, 2 hour cold maceration, pneumatic press, cool fermentation, ten days on lees, vegan

This is a Cooperative wine and you should know by now that we love a good CoOp!!

The Etang de Thau is a large group of basins in the South of France right on the med and it's here where you find dreamy picpouls. The guys at Florensac have some of the oldest vineyards in this area and they've taken two local varietals and blended them. Picpoul brings a zippy freshness and Terret brings complexity.

The grapes are picked at night when it is cooler and this helps the grapes retain their freshness and aromas. This is a fresh and fruity wine; yet attractively exotic and lively. Freshly easy to drink, yet slightly rich with a foundation of citrus and great length.

A wine reflecting it's label, as it'll go perfectly with oysters and seafood platters!

Loxarel, Cora, Penedes, Spain

Who - Joseph Mijans, Loxarel
Where - Penedes, Catalunya, Spain
What - White Wine - Muscat d’Alexandria, Muscat de Frontignan, Xarel-lo
When - 2024
How - Biodynamic, 6 hour maceration with carbonic snow, fermented with indigenous yeast, aged in steel, unfined, unfiltered, vegan

Josep Mitjans made his first 1000 bottles of Cava at just 16 years old and while he is the fourth generation of his family to farm the vineyards he is the first to turn away from using the grapes to produce bulk wine and to focus on quality.

He created name of the winery, Loxarel, to honour the local grape variety Xarel-Lo and has developed a range of wines which champion the grape, the region and the spirit of this part of Catalunya. Working following Biodynamic principles and with minimal manipulation in the winery to produce wines that are truly expressive of the land and also delicious to drink.

This wines is a blend of local grape Xarello with Muscat d’Alexandria and Muscat of Frontignan from the hills of Alt Penedès within what is known as the Xarel-Lo triangle. Loxarel farm biodynamically and are well known for quality, traditional method sparkling wines (ie Cava but good Cava not nasty Cava).

Perky is a good description of the aromas and flavours of this wine and these have been preserved by the use of dry ice during a 6 hour maceration on the skins. Floral but not OTT, finishing dry with hints of quince and limes and a slightly saline edge. A lovely aperitif or “I fancy a glass of wine” wine but nice with a salad or fresh shell fish too. Drink young while still perky.

Orange Wine

Felicette, First Contact, IGP Côtes Catalanes, Roussillon, France

Who - Terres Fidèles
Where - Agly Valley, Roussillon, France
What - Orange Wine - Muscat, Grenache Gris
When - 2025
How - Sustainable, co-fermented, 20 day maceration, stainless steel, vegan

Named in honour of Felicette, the first cat in space, and made to uncover less explored regions and varieties, this is a stellar intro to skin contact / orange wine from the Catalan coast. It's a blend of Muscat and Grenache Gris grown on black schist soil close to the Mediterranean which brings great freshness and minerality to the wine. The grapes are co-fermented on the skins for 20 days before ageing in stainless steel. Expect zesty citrus amongst floral nuances and sweet exotic spices.

Pink Wine

Reserve de Gassac, Selection Guibert Rosé, Pays d'Herault, France  -

Who - Famille Guibert, Mas de Daumas Gassac
Where - Terroir d’Aniane, Languedoc, France
What - Pink Wine - Grenache, Carignan, Syrah
When - 2024
How - Organic practices, stainless steel fermentation and ageing, vegan

Mas de Daumas Gassac is an iconic producer in the south of France, famous across the world. Back in the 1970s the Guibert family fell in love with an old property in a beautiful Languedoc valley and, encouraged by a professor from Bordeaux University, had the courage and vision to develop vineyards and to focus on quality above all in their wines. They were pioneers in a region which at that time was pretty much just known for high volume and low cost.

This wine is from the Guibert family's "diffusion" range, a lower cost set of wines produced in the same spirit as the domaine wines, farming small hillside vineyards in harmony with nature, but using grapes grown on vineyards across the region.

This rosé is a stunning example of Southern French pinks. Made using brief skin contact resulting in a very pale Provence-esque pink, and with minimal intervention in the winery. This wine is perfect for long summer days spent on a picnic blanket or as an aperitif on days when you are longing for sunshine!

Red Wine

La Comarcal, Delmoro Tinto, Valencia, Spain

Who - Javi Revert & Victor Marques, La Comarcal
Where - La Font de la Figuera, Valencia, Spain
What - Red Wine - Garnacha, Syrah
When - 2024
How - Organic, 30% whole bunch, fermentation with wild yeasts in stainless steel, ageing between steel and concrete before blending and bottling, vegan

La Comarcal is a collaboration between Javi Revert and his friend Victor Marques who met whilst working at another one of our Valencian favourites and amphora enthusiasts, Celler del Roure. La Comarcal means 'The District' which refers to their mission to seek out unique plots and dedicated growers in their region championing local grapes, natural yeasts and neutral vessels in order to bottle the unique places and moments in time they create the wine.

The Delmoro tinto is a bright and juicy blend of Garnacha and Syrah from organic certified vineyards around the village of Venta del Moro. Fermentation is with wild yeasts in stainless steel and 30% whole bunch before the Syrah is transferred to concrete tanks for eight months to age, while the Garnacha remains in steel. They are then blended, unfined with a light filtration and just a smidge of sulphur is added.

Expect crunchy red fruits with mediterranean herbs and some florality. Super juicy with mouthwatering acidity and a light tannin structure. Great lightly chilled.

Sweet Wine

Domaine de Valcros, Banyuls - Rimage, Languedoc-Roussillon, France (50cl)

Who - Domaine de Valcros
Where - Collioure, Roussillon, France
What - Sweet Red Wine/Vin Doux Natural - Grenache Noir
When - 2024
How - Biodynamic, fermented with natural yeasts, fermentation stopped by adding grape brandy, further three week maceration and over a year ageing in tank. vegan

You’ll find Domaine de Valero’s around the pretty seaside village of Collioure right on the Franco Spanish border. Grapes grown here are some of the lowest yields in France which create wines of great quality. They’re grown on steep terraces of schist which can only be worked by hand, not dissimilar to those of the Douro. By law, grapes destined for Banyuls must conatain a potential of 254g of sugar per litre.

Great to drink with chocolate..but also with blue cheese, desserts with red fruit compote, duck with figs...

This case contains one bottle of each of these wines. If any becomes unavailable it will be replaced by another wine of equal value.
