Tucked up in the hilly North Western tip of Sardinia, Tenute Dettori have been pioneering the craft of authentic, natural, terroir-expressive wines on the island since the early 1900s. The Dettoris farm their land comprising of vines, grain and vegetables using biodynamic practices yet without strict dates to determine certain jobs. Their decades of experience allow them to be in tune with the earth and react accordingly with the what each year brings claiming that 'each year is a new adventure and should be faced with a light touch, freedom of movement and freedom of conditioning. The vines are tended to by hand and the perfect time of harvest is determined by walking through the vineyards and chewing grapes.
Alessandro Dettori is the latest generation of winemakers and his Renosu Rosso is a non vintage blend of equal amounts of their indigenous red varieties, Cannonau, Monica and Pascale. He makes wines with only grapes, without any additions of synthetic chemicals apart from a little sulphur. Fermentation occurs spontaneously after two days maceration in concrete vats before three months aging also in concrete. The nose brings bags of red fruit with some spice and mediterranean scrub, savoury and mineral on the palate. Best enjoyed a little chilled and with a little patience to rest in the glass.
