Séléné, AOP Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais, France
Sylvère Richard started Séléné in 2012 upon taking over his Grandmother's four hectares of vines near the Beaujolais commune of Blacé. He got shown the ropes in the winery by his uncle in 1998 as he was beginning to convert the family domaine to organics. He went on to study agriculture as well as getting experience working with Dominique Belluard in Savoie and Jean-Claude Lapalu in Beaujolais. He now works loosely with biodynamic principles in mind, in accordance with the lunar calendar, but not pursuing strict certification. Sylvère's been working hard to encourage biodiversity, planting an orchard in 2020 as well as trees between the rows of vines which will add some shade for the vines which is becoming increasingly important as temperatures continue to climb each summer.
This is a dark and crunchy Beaujolais with racing acidity and notes of kirsch cherry and bubblegum.
