Gavi is one of the famous wines of Italy, produced in vineyards in Piedmont, just 40 kilometres from the Ligurian Sea. Like many famous names though wines bearing the name don’t always live up to expectations, alas, but this, from the 50 year old Produttori di Gavi co-operative, is just what you could hope for - mineral, crisp, but with lovely stone fruit character to flesh it out and make it a great accompaniment to antipasti, a lemon risotto or some fish.
