Moulin de Gassac, Pinot Noir, Pays d’Oc, France

This is from the “diffusion” range of one of France’s icon producers, Mas de Daumas Gassac, owned by the Guibert family. Mas de Daumas Gassac was one of the key wines that put Languedoc back on the map for quality wine production rather than big volume or high alcohol vin de medecin wines, used to “doctor” wines from further north that needed a bit more va va voom. The Guibert family unashamedly used international grape varieties, went all out for quality and were not afraid to charge for it.

This wine is made for everyday drinking from Pinot Noir grown in cooler sites in the Languedoc - Pinot and heat tends to produce jammy, high alcohol wines lacking in subtlety. The wine is light and fruity, perfect with charcuterie, maybe some med-style chicken or some chargrilled veg. Drink while young.
