Mora & Memo, Nau, Cannonau di Sardegna, Sardinia, Italy
Sardinia claims to be the original home of Garnacha (aka Grenache) where it is known as Cannonau and produces a rather more structured and perhaps serious, savoury style of wine, crying out for some salty, mature cheese or full-on salami. Mora & Memo (woman owned, by the Elisabetta Pala) sits high in the hills of South Eastern Sardinia, just a few kilometres from the sea. Elisabetta's dream was to create wines that express both her character and land she grew up on, and they definitely don't disappoint. The image on the bottle is a homage to the Sardinian Moorish found in the Sardinian flag, designed with the Mora in mind as a feminine version.
30 year old vines, planted in the south on limestone and clay soils around 200m above sea level. Red berry fruit spicy notes, beautifully soft and elegant.
