Merayo, Las Tres Filas Mencia, Bierzo, Spain

Another of Spain’s great, lesser known grape varieties, Mencia is native to Bierzo, a region directly north of Portugal. With less influence from the Atlantic, the climate is a bit warmer than neighbouring areas of Galicia making it more suitable for growing red grapes. The Merayo family has been growing grapes in the region for generations but it is Pedro who has really taken things to the next level and, with the help of winemaker Fermin Uria, started producing outstanding wines.
