Another of Spain’s great, lesser known grape varieties, Mencia is native to Bierzo, a region directly north of Portugal. Being slight further inland with less influence from the Atlantic, the climate is a bit warmer than neighbouring areas of Galicia making it more suitable for growing red grapes. The Merayo family has been growing grapes in the region for generations with many of their vines are over 100 years old. This wine is taken from a single vineyard named Las Tres Filas which is just three rows on one hectare of stoney soil where the youngest vines are 80 years old.
Fresh and intense with strawberries and berries leading the way alongside some floral notes of violet as well as tobacco and spice. A gastronomic wine, great for lovers of Pinot Noir.
