Mas d'Agalis, Yo No Puedo Màs, Languedoc, France
"Yo No Peudo Mas" (I can't take it anymore) is Lionel Maurel’s snub to the French classification system, a response to the traditional and old fashioned attitudes ingrained in the system that make wines like Lionel’s struggle to gain certification.
That is not to say that his wines are not absolutely delicious and wonderful expressions of the place that he works in and the grapes he uses.
Lionel is a fourth generation wine grower who tool over the family vineyards having worked with some of the biggest names in natural winemaking across France. He makes wines using a very gentle, infusion style: gentle, light extractions, minimal handling and no punchdowns.
This wine uses Languedoc’s typical blend of red grapes and is gorgeously aromatic, with red fruits, a touch of spice, and garrigue herbal complexity. Medium bodied with well integrated tannin means that while this wine is no southern blockbuster, it is seriously complex and moreish. Delicious served with typically Mediterranean dishes: simply grilled meat or slow cooked vegetable dishes.
