Marabino means 'land of the beloved sun' and is a project run by Pierpaolo Messina in the southeastern most tip of Sicily, Val di Noto. He has 30 hectares of vineyards divided into 18 distinctive parcels according to their soil types, but all within a few kilometres of the Ionian Sea, whose cooling coastal breeze relieves the vines from the intense Sicilian sun and retains fresh acidity found through each of his wines.
Marabino's pink offering is made from 100% Nero d'Avola , spontaneously fermented in a combination of barrique and amphorae before being combined for ageing in stainless steel for eight months and then bottled on a fruit day of the lunar calendar with the addition of a touch of sulphur. Expect bursts of berries like wild strawberries and raspberries alongside hints of thyme. Structured and seriously drinkable.
