The Maçanita siblings have worked together in over 14 wineries across their home nation of Portugal so it was only natural for them to start a project of their own where they could channel everything they'd learned along the way as well as counter the practices of the norm that they disagreed with. They began Maçanita Vinhos in 2011 with aim of exhibiting the vast diversity of terroir of the Douro valley.
This wine comes from vines further down the slopes, no more than 100m in altitude across both Cima Corgo and Baixo Corgo. The blend consists of 50% Touriga Nacional, 20% Sousão and the rest a field blend of old vine, native varieties all of which are hand harvested and sorted before fermentation occurs with native yeasts in stainless steel followed by 12 months maturing in steel to keep vibrant fruit character at its core. All done so with minimal intervention to allow the rugged terroir of the Douro to express itself.
Expect a bold red with notes of black cherry and dark fruits, wild herbs, cocoa, liquorice, fine tannins and a mineral core.
