Luke Lambert, Syrah, Yarra Valley, Australia

Luke started his own project with 1000kg of grapes, a small basket press, and a 30 year old barrel. Everything is still pretty small scale, with grapes sourced from elevated sites in the Yarra valley, with poor, rocky soils. Fruit is handpicked and wild fermented with no temperature control, no new oak, no fining or filtration and very limited use of sulphur.

This single vineyard syrah is a beautiful example of cool climate Yarra, with aromas of violets, spice and white pepper. It has lovely structure and length, but has a lovely light touch which makes it super drinkable.
