Landron Chartier, Esprit Detente, Coteaux d'Ancenis, France
"Gamay. Gourmand. Sur les épices."
Benoît and Bernard Landron farm around 25 hectares of vines near Ancenis, north-east of Nantes, where they produce a mix of red, white & sparkling wines. Coteaux d’Ancenis is the only appellation within the lower Loire that allows red and rosé wines and these wines tend to be a lot leaner and floral.
This gamay is hand harvested and destemmed before a 10 day maceration before a wild yeast fermentation before being aged on the lees for 6 -10 months. Only on tiny amount of sulphur is added at bottling. A versatile red that would be great with seafood or a roasted duck.
