Inacayal, La Patagua, Valle de Colchagua, Chile
Luca Hodgkinson hails from Priorat, Spain. With an English father and French mother, he seemed destined to travel. A long time consultant in Chile and with his own business sourcing grapes from sustainable, often organic vineyards for other producers, it only seems natural he would want to do the whole process himself.
Luca created this wine and its red partner, La Cueva, with the aim of being excellent value, made as naturally as possible, to faithfully reflect the place they come from and rediscover the tradition of winemaking in Chile.
This Semillon is co-planted with Sauvignon Vert, (however this is not declared as it's only a tiny portion), in Colchagua, in the Central Valle region of Chile, close to the Pacific so cooled by fresh coastal breezes. The Moscatel is planted in Guarilihue in Itata, further south and in the first area of Chile which was used to make wine. These old vineyards on undulating hillsides are dry farmed and use the original root stock. The Moscatel is picked a month prior to the Semillon, the bunches are whole pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. At bottling only a modest amount of sulphur is used.
Fresh, acidic with extra floral notes, great with seafood and aromatic dishes
