The Gasharu Washing Station is one of two owned and operated by Gasharu Coffee. The company was formed in 1976, when Celestin Rumenerangabo planted his first coffee trees in Nyamasheke. Since then, the business has grown considerably, to the point where today it exports beans from around 1650 different smallholder farmers.

The coffee season in Rwanda runs from February to July, and every year the company employs around 150 local people to help process the harvest.

Coffee is an important part of Rwanda’s culture and economy. Gasharu is continually improving its production methods, and encouraging curiosity and experimentation in order to produce exceptional lots.

The producer's concept behind this particular lot is to provide the most authentic coffee cup of Rwandan coffee to coffee lovers. Gasharu's goal is to foster a great connection between producer and consumer, and they hope that this coffee will help strengthen that connection.
