Gernot and Heike Henrich are life long innovators. Since taking over the family estate on the shores of Lake Neusiedel in 1985 they have constantly sought to improve and explore. They farm biodynamically, which they see as being right for the planet and better for the wines, and they were among the first to move to focus on quality and champion local grape varieties.

They were one of the founding members of Respekt, a certifying body for biodynamic viticulture in Austria and in the winery, as you would expect, they are similarly focused on working with as little intervention as possible while making pure, beautifully drinkable wines.

While most of their wines are made from local, traditional varieties this wine is made from Pinot Noir but no less exciting and delicious for that. The grapes were handpicked in late August. Fermentation was spontaneous, with the naturally occurring yeasts, and the juice stayed on the skins for a week to extract colour but not too much tannin. The wine was matured in oak for six months before bottling.

With lovely aromas of red fruits, medium body, an savoury finish and delicate balance, it is lovely to drink with some grilled vegetable dishes or game.
