Domaine Sylvain Bzikot, Bourgogne Blanc Cote d'Or, Burgundy, France
Domaine Bzikot's origin is back in the late 1930's and the arrival of Sylvain's grandfather in Burgundy, fleeing Poland with pretty much nothing but the clothes he stood in. Fast forward to the present day and this family owned domaine has vineyards on some of the best sites in Puligny-Montrachet and surrounds and has built an enviable reputation for quality, consistency and value for money.
Sylvain also buys grapes in from trusted partners, a micro-negoce side to the business. This wine is made from purchased grapes but receives the same attention and expert winemaking as those made from domaine grown grapes.
Half the juice is fermented and matured in steel to maintain freshness while the other half is matured in french oak, 5% of it new, to add complexity, depth and texture. The Cote d'Or is rich and concentrated with lovely deep citrus notes, almonds and green fruit.
"Value" burgundy is tragically scarce but this is a true classic at a great price, perfect with chicken in a cream sauce or mushroom risotto.
