Rogue Vine, Grand Itata Blanco, Itata, Chile

Itata in Bio Bio is a long forgotten viticultural valley in the far south of Chile, about 400km south of Santiago, with a few scattered vineyards of old bush vines growing on granite soils. Rogue vines is the passion project of Leonardo Ezaro and Justin Decker. This is an unusual blend for Chile, Muscat and Riesling, producing a wine with refreshing zestiness and notes of orange blossom, lemon peel and peaches.

Leonardo and Justin are growing grapes on rediscovered old vineyards, 270 metres above sea level where the climate's high rainfall and the soils are pure granite and make farming difficult. The grapes come from bush vines which are ploughed by horses and only receive water from the rainfall, a completely organic project born from Leonardo and Justins love of terroir and sustainability. They are vinifying using native yeasts and concrete tanks, this low intervention method allows for a refreshing zestiness and notes of orange blossom, lemon peel and peaches.
