Colet, Penedes Classic, Tradicional Extra Brut, Catalunya, Spain - Josep and Sergei Colet now manage the land their forefathers have farmed for over 200 years and if you ask them what they are deep down they will say farmers. They were able to purchase the land in the 1970’s and from then on they changed their outlook and their wine making style to quality rather than quantity, with Sergi’s Masters in Champagne background the quality shines through in bucket loads.
Their principles: ‘effort, perseverance, respect for nature and teamwork are our essential pillars’, and in doing so we can enjoy their Penedes Classic.
Organic and vegan this wine has spent 24 months on the lees bringing buttery bread notes balanced with elegant herbaceous and fruit flavours and a bone dry finish.

White Wine

Te Whare Ra, Toru, Awatere, New Zealand - New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is a regular favourite but too often it feels like the volume has been turned up beyond 11. And this is why we love Te Whare Ra. Anna and Jason Flowerday farm their vineyards in Awatere organically and biodynamically, a farming method which aims to maximise biodiversity and carries out various activities in the vineyards and winery in line with lunar phases.
Te Whare Ra wines are delightfully elegant and quietly expressive but still wear their Marlborough origin with pride.

Bret Brothers, Pouilly-Vinzelles, "Les Remparts" 2016, Burgundy, France -Brothers, Jean Philippe and Jean Guillaume Bret removed their family vineyard in the Macon from the local co-op in 2000, in order to establish Domaine de la Soufrandière. They have since converted to organic and biodynamic farming across their sights and are now making some of the most exciting wines in the Mâconnais.

In 2001 they created Bret Brothers, the negociant side for which they buy top quality organically farmed grapes from 40+ year old vines in small plots in the best sites in the Mâcon. All the vineyards are hand harvested by their team, vinified using natural yeasts, matured and bottled in house, with the same care and attention to detail as their estate wines.

Pouilly-Vinzelles is a continuation of the Jurassic Limestone slopes of Pouilly-Fuisse. Creamy and floral with plenty of texture and minerality, not too dissimilar from a Chablis.

Domaine Lapierre, Raisins Gaulois, Beaujolais, France, 2022 -

There were a couple of crucibles of the natural wine revolution in France. One was the Loire valley centered on Nicolas Joly. Another was in Beaujolais, where Jules Chauvet, a fourth generation winemaker but also a chemist, took a critical view of what they were being encouraged to do in the vineyard and in the winery and decided that over-use of chemicals in both was bad for the environment and bad for the wine. Several other growers in Beaujolais followed M. Chauvet’s lead. Known as the Gang of Four, among them was Marcel Lapierre. Sadly he died quite young in 2010 but his wife Marie carried on the estate as well as farming her own Chateau Cambon and has now been joined by their son Mathieu and daughter Camille. ‘Raisin Gaulois’ is labelled Vin de France as it is mainly from vines around Morgon but with a little from outside so doesn’t fit a suitable Beaujolais appellation.

It is 100% Beaujo though, lovely, lively fruit, juicy, soft and ever so drinkable.

Mostly Garnacha with a little bit of Carignan. Intense, fresh and complex.

Sweet Wine

Jean-Bernard Larrieu, La Magendia, Lapeyre Jurancon, France. -  37.5cl - From the foothills north of the Pyrenees where cool nights, warm breezes and a long season make for a complex, balanced and aromatic white wines. In this case the grapes are left long on the vine to become super ripe but the natural acidity of the variety used is the perfect foil to the natural sweetness.
