Emilio Oliveri is originally from Liguria but moved to Piedmont to be with the love of his life Maria Luisa, whose father owned a small vineyard in the small commune of Tagliolo Monferrato. Emilio started his life in Piedmont working in a local textile factory while helping Maria Luisa's father on the farm and learning vine growing and wine making on the job.

The couple (pictured above) took over looking after the farm in the 1960s and have been farming and making wine in much the same way ever since. They grow the native vines of Dolcetto and Barbera in silt-sandy soil and make the wines from both varieties in much the same way, though the Barbera is given a little more ageing to devlop its true character.

Today, the couple are in their 80's and are still going strong, with youthful stubbornness and phenomenal pride, creating some of the best wines in Piemonte.

La Borgatta is an aged and serious barbera. Rustic, complex, strikingly elegant and vibrant.
