Manchuela is rapidly becoming one of our favourite regions in Spain. The altitude refreshes the heat in a way that other regions cannot match, it has some great local grape varieties and it’s also escaped much attention so the wines are still remarkable value for money. It’s grown by Juan Antonio Ponce, the magician of Manchuela, a champion of organic and biodynamic viticulture. This is perhaps Juan's most serious wine, he reckons it's the best he's ever made! Bobal and Moravia Agria co-planted on one single vineyard plot in Villanueva.  Whole bunches are put into large oak fermenters, foot trodden and fermentation uses just the naturally occurring yeasts. Post fermentation it is kept in French oak barrels for around seventeen months. Unfined, unfiltered and only a smidge of sulphur added. 

Juicy, elegant red berries with black pepper, iron and chalk.
