New in, the latest releases from Whinyard Rocks, New Radnor, Wales.
Whinyard Rocks is two people trying to make wine on a hillside in Wales. The results are everything that is great about the UK wine scene - adventurous, ingenious, and delicious.
James and Susan left behind London life, working as a scientist and at a sustainable food & drink startup respectively, for very rural Powys, after James had the wild idea of planting a vineyard on a slightly lower lying field on the family sheep farm. And just to make things even harder they followed through on their values and decided to make the wines as naturally as possible, farming regeneratively and making the wines with no additions, no fining or filtration, and using the naturally occurring yeasts for fermentation.
The 2024 vintage was, to say the least, challenging. But with the help of some additional grapes from Bryn, the octogenarian grape whisperer of the Welsh borders, who managed to coax an amazing crop from his unsprayed, hand tended vineyard while all around were despairing, Susan and James have made some really exciting wines and we’re pleased to have got our hands on some of the very few that were produced.
In stock are the Still Orange, Solaris Pet Nat and Rosé Col Fondo. The Col Fondo is on by the glass at PetitGlou now and watch out for the others going at GlouGlou too.
