To Sherry or not to Sherry...

To Sherry or not to Sherry...

The rumour is that we opened GlouGlou in part because we wanted to be able to open more wine for us to taste. There’s truth in some rumours, including this one.

There was a little of this sherry left over from an event last week at GlouGlou (check @glouglou_sy1 for some pics) and this morning we got the bottle back to Iron & Rose and the rest of us had a little taste.

Wow.

Equipo Navazos is one of the leading producers of Sherry. Quality is absolutely second to none. Quantities are extremely limited - each "bota" is numbered and a one off, never to be repeated.

What started as a personal project of a group of friends was noticed by Ferran Adrià (chef at El Bulli) who persuaded them to make some for his restaurant and then one thing led to another and the wines garnered an international reputation.

La Bota de Fino “Macharnudo Alto” is a terroir wine, made exclusively with wine from the Macharnudo Alto vineyard, a truly privileged terroir to the north of Jerez, in the best area of the mythical Pago Macharnudo.

The current release, Bota 115, is from a saca made in August 2022. This is a wine for connoisseurs, bottled unfiltered in order to preserve its intense colour and racy character. It can be enjoyed now, but its evolution in bottle will continue to delight for quite a while, provided it is carefully stored.

Find it online here and in our shop on the gallery level of Shrewsbury Market Hall.

But don’t hang around if you want some…
