Venice and its Carnevale is the backdrop to our month. Our mixed cases at Iron & Rose and by the glass selection at GlouGlou and PetitGlou in February are informed by visits to this most extraordinary city.
Anyone who has explored the hidden corners of Venice or wandered the narrow calle will have been struck by the contrast of light and shade.
Without wanting to get too nerdy, and trying really quite hard not to, this is also what makes wines great. Call it complexity, balance, nerve, whatever, it’s the layers of flavour, the contrast between light and shade, that makes a wine interesting and more than just a drink.
That shading makes a wine so much more satisfying, so a little goes a long way. Good news for those looking to moderate their drinking. And we believe that balance only really shows in wines made by growers working in harmony with the environment and minimal manipulation in the winery to craft naturally delicious wines. So it’s a win win win; better for you, better for the planet, better tasting.
Stay curious. Buy better. Drink well.
