It feels time to say au revoir to the gluggable, chillable reds and light, frivolous whites, and time to say a big hello and nice to see you again to the chunky, rich wines that are going to make the autumn evenings taste good.
We’re looking at you Rhône valley friends, Piedmontese allies, wines from the Duoro, Rioja and Puglia, Priorat, Penedes, Abruzzo… There are plenty of places to look.
We’re looking for red wines that have the colour to stain your teeth as well as this guys hands. And whites that have substance and presence. We’ll go for an orange that is off toward to spice end of the spectrum and a rosé that thinks it’s got the weight to style it out like it’s a red.
