If it grows together, it goes together.

If it grows together, it goes together.

Food and wine matching: a science, an art, or just a bit of fun?

There is a truism in food and wine matching that what grows together, goes together. That food or recipes go well with wines produced in the same region. A few examples; Oysters and Muscadet, Sancerre and goats cheese, Barolo and truffles (my favourite!) But with our menus much more international these days, it’s much harder to follow this guideline.

There are a few supposed rules, red wine with meat and white wine with fish for example. But rules are there to be broken. We are perhaps unusually obsessed with what we are eating and drinking so tell us what you are cooking up and we’ll suggest a wine to match. Or do it the other way round - choose a wine and we’ll come up with some ideas of what to eat and send you off to visit our neighbours in Shrewsbury Market Hall to find the ingredients!

PS if oysters are your thing, don’t miss our special Oyster Night at GlouGlou on Friday 18th July. Oysters from Pembrokeshire, a curated wine flight (and a menu for the non-bivalve-believers too, just in case). Book online at ironandrose.com or call in.
