Overlooking the gulf of Corinth is the village of Ano Diakopto, once described (all the way back in 150AD) as the ideal place for grape cultivation by the geographer Pausanias. Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos is normally found working at Tetramythos but here he has made his own label wines, farming organic local varietal Roditis. This native grape is slightly pink grey grape from 45 year old bush vines growing at altitude above the gulf of Corinth.
The grapes are hand harvested in late September and are gently crushed and only the free run juice, the first juice to come from the initial pressing, is used. Fermentation is long and slow taking about 5 months to complete and undergoes a spontaneous malolactic fermentation before aging for 6 months on the fine lees before being bottled unfined an unfiltered. This wine is citrusy with a creamy minerality and bright acidity. Would pair well with fish or chicken in a rich white sauce.
