Overlooking the gulf of Corinth is the village of Ano Diakopto, once described (all the way back in 150AD) as the ideal place for grape cultivation by the geographer Pausanias. Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos is normally found working at Tetramythos but here he has made his own label wines, farming organic local varietals Mavro Daphne, Mavro Kalavrytino and Agiorgitiko.
Each grape is fermented separately in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks using wild yeasts, they are then gently pressed before spending 5 months on the fine lees (these are tiny yeast particles that can help smooth tannins and add a bread like or nuttiness)in separate oak and stainless steel tanks. Once aging is complete they are blended together and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The result is a youthful wine with a chalky acidity and cherry fruitiness. Great with mezze, salads, barbecues and sunshine.
