There's only so much room on the physical shelf but online we have the luxury of homing the whole stable. Well, they are the kind of wines you may have heard about, may even know someone who's seen or even drunk one. They needn't be expensive, they are just super scarce and it's exciting when you catch a glimpse of one. We're in the lucky position to receive allocations of these wines from time to time - a question of being in the right place, at the right time, and knowing the right people! Back in the day Milan Nesarec had a patchwork of vineyards and every space was used which led to a barrel of Gruner Veltliner raging in a barrel in a stinking hot garage.. So the wine started to evaporate and a meaty flor developed on the exposed surface. It was then stopped and topped up but it was the start of something.. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNowadays barrels aren't stored in the garage but we still want that nutty goodness. When the new wine is ready to be barrelled a bit of the previous vintage is kept in there allowing the old and new vintages to mingle. This wine is adventurous and surprising, much like waiting a year to find out if the mingling worked or went astray.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat The Flor.. The vineyard lies on a very steep 2.5Ha plot, with shallow gravel topsoil interspersed with broken sandstone over rock. The altitude is around 200 metres above sea level. Climate is cool in relation to the rest of Australia's viticultural regions, with rainfall in the winter and spring, and relatively cool, dry and humid summers. There is limited maritime influence.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAfter hand-picking whole bunches undergo natural ferment in open vats, with minimum intervention. Wines are then aged for 11 months in French hogsheads on lees. They are only handled once, the week before bottling when they are put in a blending tank and lightly sulfer adjusted. Wines are bottled without fining or filtration.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"column\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOn the nose there’s raspberry, blueberry, sour cherry and plenty of sweet spice. The whole bunch pressing give this wine an incredible texture – a little stalky but in balance with a cranberry accented acidity.
